Again…as a reminder…I’m posting every day…so if you think what I’ve got to share is worthwhile…come on by daily and invite your friends and family…
How tough are your kids?
Strange question? Perhaps. But, it’s something I’ve been pondering a lot lately. Why?
Because of the state of our country. We are in deep trouble my friends. I don’t talk about this much from the pulpit…but, I will here because it’s my blog and I can talk about politics if I want to on my blog…right? Ha!!
I’m concerned about the fact that we have mortgaged our children’s future to the point that they are going to be in such financial bondage they will never get out. What am I talking about? Simply this. It is reported that the National Debt is around $13.3 Trillion. Yes, that is a “T” for TRILLION. Check it out…
Do you see how fast that ticker is moving? Scary!!
But, what most people don’t realize is that our total debt is over $54 TRILLION!! Take a look about midway down on the chart to see that number. Let me put this in context. 1 trillion dollars piled in a stack is 67,000 miles tall. That’s 67,000 miles!! That’s 1/4 of the way to the moon!! Straight up! Now times that times 54 and this is over 3.6 million miles…straight up. That puts this stack 16 times further away from us than the moon!! Are you kidding me? Think about the enormity of this debt. Here is a visual image of just 1 trillion dollars.
Notice the man in the left hand corner. These are stacks of $1 bills on pallets. Now imagine this times 54!!!
And did you see the total debt per citizen? $175,000 each!! Let me say it again…we are in deep trouble economically in this nation. Why? Because we have no “character” as a nation. We continue to spend and spend and spend and push off the problem to the next generation. We have no courage and we have no conviction to do the right thing. Republicans and Democrats…the political system in this nation is broken and in my opinion beyond repair. However, I do believe the apparent “socialistic” agenda the Obama administration is marching toward is absolutely devastating for our children and grand children’s futures.
So, back to the original question. How tough are your kids? I’m not talking about if they can handle a “bully’s” punch? I’m asking the question in the context of these thoughts. Are you and I raising our children to potentially being capable of living in a home that is not as nice as the one they grew up in…eat food that is raised in a garden (and they’ve been trained to raise a garden), because bread costs $10 a loaf and milk $12 a gallon at the grocery store? Could they live without air conditioning? Why? Because they can’t afford to run it because there are few jobs and little money to go around. Could they make it if they had no cable t.v. or cell phone or computers? Why? Because no one can afford such things?
You may say…”Wow, Kevin, are you nuts! This sounds ‘way out there’ buddy!” Yes…I know it sounds “far out,” but can I draw your attention back to the Debt Clock.
(Some of you still haven’t clicked on it yet to take a look…please do so now.)
Do you see the trouble we’re in? Do you see what our children are facing? The average total debt per family that is being doled to us because of our “out of control” spending as a nation is $666,532 per family and yet…the average family income in America is only $62,759. Do you see there is no way we can ever pay off this debt? So, what is going to happen? There is coming to America an economic “pay day.” When will that happen? I don’t know…but, when it comes…it will make the Great Depression of 1929 look like a day in the park. You say, “Kevin, you are scaring me to death!” Good! I hope I am. I hope some people will wake up and see what we need to do.
You say, “Yes…throw out all the bums in Washington!” Nope! Do you know why? Because politics will not change this nation! New bums in Washington will replace the old ones (by and large). Why? Because our two-party political system is broken beyond repair because the power resides in the courts today (that’s why Elena Kagan’s approval as our newest Supreme Court Justice is another blow to conservatism…she is definitely a liberal and will sway the court as such, in my opinion). There is no longer a balance of power in this nation. The judicial branch reigns supreme. Pardon the pun. (Supreme Court). Whatever the Legislative and Executive branches say or do…the Judicial branch can “undo.”
So what do we do? We follow the words of Scripture:
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
We need a spiritual awakening in this nation. “My people.” That means us! That means Christians must repent and turn from our wicked ways. Will we? Can I be very honest? I doubt it! Pessimistic? Maybe. But, honestly, I don’t believe the Church in America has an appetite for obedience. So, then what? We must raise strong and tough-minded, dedicated, rock-solid children to be able to withstand the tsunami that is coming. Take a look at this picture of the 2004 tsunami that hit Thailand. They were totally unaware!
May we not be totally unaware. May we be sober and vigilant. May we teach and train our children to be soldiers for Christ. May we train them to be willing to face tough times with a smile and jaw set like flint. Why? Because they are God’s children and He said He’d never leave us nor forsake us (Matt. 28:20). He will always provide for His people and for the “remnant” that remains. We don’t live in fear because John tells us in 1 John 4 that “perfect love drives out fear…because fear has to do with punishment.” We live in power and the strength of the Lord, because His strength is made perfect in our weakness.
So, how tough are your kids? They had better be VERY tough. Why? Because they are going to have to deal with a tsunami. It’s coming…you better believe it’s coming my friend. So, you and I had better teach our children to live on less…teach them to do hard things…like chores…planting a garden…not being spoiled to all the conveniences that we continue to lavish on them. We had better teach them to be students of the Word of God…that’s where they will find their strength. We had better put a premium on raising them to love the Bible more than education or sports or money or games or fun. We had better be raising some warriors. If not…then…well…they’ll be destroyed.
I encourage you to pour the Word of God into your family. You and I must be students of the Word ourselves if we want our children to be equipped and trained and prepared. So, let’s turn off the TV…pull ourselves out of the rat race and start having some classroom sessions in our living rooms as we read the Word of God together. We had better teach our children and grandchildren that they may have to live with less and we should begin modeling this now…today…before it’s too late and we’ve raised a “spoiled generation” that’s at rest in Zion while a tsunami is barreling toward them.
